Saints Weekly Athletic Update
Boys Basketball competed in the prestigious St. Joseph’s Elite 8 Tournament at the end of last week, facing some of the top teams in California as well as strong out-of-state competition. The Saints opened the tournament with an impressive 53–40 victory over Northern California powerhouse Riordan. In the second game, they dropped a hard-fought overtime battle to Florida’s Riviera Prep. The tournament concluded with a statement win in the third-place game, as the Saints defeated Crespi 60–57. Boys Basketball is now 9–2 on the season and ranked 2nd in Orange County.
Girls Basketball traveled to Hawaii to compete in the Oahu Classic. Along with experiencing island life, the Saints faced quality opponents from across the country. They opened the tournament with a 39–33 victory over Midway before falling to Pisgah on the final day.
Boys Soccer competed in the Warrior Invitational throughout last week, finishing with a 1-1-2 record. The Saints opened with back-to-back draws against Laguna Hills and Samueli Academy, highlighted by strong defensive play and several key saves from the goalkeeper. In the third match, the Saints earned their first win of the season with a dominant 7–0 victory over Oxford Academy. The tournament concluded with a tightly contested match against Valley Christian, where the Saints battled throughout but fell 2–1.
Girls Soccer finished the week 1-1. The Saints earned an impressive 2–1 road victory over Mission Viejo, highlighted by a game-winning free kick from just outside the penalty box by goalkeeper Kate Nourse. Their lone loss came against the No. 1 ranked team in Orange County and CIF, Santa Margarita. The Saints battled defensively and kept the match scoreless for most of the game, but a late goal secured a 1–0 win for the Eagles.
Girls Water Polo had a strong week, finishing 2-1. The Saints opened with a comeback victory over Marina after trailing 8–2 at halftime. The offense erupted for nine second-half goals while the defense allowed just one, securing an exciting 11–9 win. The Saints then battled Irvine but fell 10–8 before bouncing back with another close victory, defeating Northwood 7–5.
Surf competed in their fourth meet of the season against Laguna Beach. While the overall result wasn’t what the Saints hoped for, there were several standout individual performances. Kaylin Vollmer earned 2nd place in the Women’s Longboard Finals, Campbell Reese took 1st place in the Bodyboard division, and Kai Rodriguez finished 5th overall in Men’s Shortboard.
