Saints Athletic Weekly Update 2/2 – 2/6

Boys Basketball finished the regular season 21-7 and 7-1 in league. They ended the regular season as Crestview League Champions and 2nd in the OC Register’s OC Top 25 Rankings. With their great season the Saints were placed at the top of Division 1 where they will host Santa Barbara in the first round of CIF.

Girls Basketball ended their season with a 13-12 record. They didn’t win an at-large berth to the playoffs, and their season is over. It was a great season with great memories of travelling to Hawaii and winning the Ramona Winter Classic!

Boys Soccer needed to win their final game against Pacifica to make the playoffs. The Saints did so in grand fashion! The Saints put six goals past the Mariners to take all three points and earn themselves a spot in the playoffs! The boys were placed in Division 5 and will host Ventura in the first round on Wednesday.

Girls Soccer needed a win or a tie against Yorba Linda to make the playoffs. In the final minutes, the Saints gave up a goal and went down 0-1. In stoppage time, the Saints were awarded a free kick just outside of the box. Goalkeeper Kate Nourse came up to take it. With a big run-up, she kicked the ball towards goal, where it deflected off a defender and found its way to the back of the net to secure the 1-1 tie! With that result, the Saints qualified for the playoffs, where they will host West Ranch on Thursday in Division 2 playoffs.

Girls Water Polo defeated Citrus Valley in the first round of playoffs! It was a tightly contested game from start to finish, as each team took the lead but never by more than two goals. With 20 seconds remaining in the game, and the score tied at 13-13, the Saints had possession of the ball. With some good ball movement, the Saints found an open shot and put it in the net for a game-winning goal! The defense prevailed in the final seconds, and the Saints advanced 14-13! They will now play on Tuesday at San Juan Hills in the second round.
