Since starting in 2008 as the first head baseball coach at Crean Lutheran, Jake Haney has guided the program from its humble beginnings. After starting the program in the spring of 2009, playing a JV schedule, 2010 was the 1st Varsity season. After finishing that season 5-13, the team turned it around in year 2 with a 17-11 record and winning the first playoff game in program history. In 13 varsity seasons, Coach Haney has guided the Saints to a 223-128-1 record (varsity). This includes 8 consecutive playoff appearances and a 14-8 playoff record during that span. The 2016 season was the best in the school’s short history. The team went 23-8-1 that season, highlighted by a trip to the CIF championship game.
Prior to his time at Crean Lutheran, Coach Haney was the head coach at Eastside Christian High School, in Fullerton, from 2003 to 2008. During that time the Eagles went to the playoffs 3 times including the CIF championship game in 2005. Over those 6 seasons, Coach Haney’s teams went 86-46.
Coach Haney played his high school baseball at Gilroy High School in Gilroy, CA. As a senior he was an and All Monterey Bay League selection as well as team MVP. After graduating, he went on to play 2 years at Gavilan Community College. During his sophomore season he was named all Coast Conference as a pitcher. Following his 2 years at Gavilan, Coach Haney went to play for Division 1 Centenary College of Louisiana. As a captain his senior season he was named the team’s Pitcher of the Year and team MVP. That season also saw him set school records for wins in a season and innings pitched in a season.
Coach Haney and his wife Amy attend Crossroads Church in Corona. The couple have 2 children, Jackson (17) and Aubrey (14).
