Saints Weekly Athletic Update 1/19 – 1/24

Boys Basketball was on the road this week and won two huge league games. The Saints started up the second half of league play with big wins against Cypress and Canyon. Playing in tough environments, the boys kept their composure and pulled away in the fourth quarter, beating Cypress 57-41 and Canyon 60-47. They also played in the Nike Extravaganza against top Nevada team, Bishop Gorman. The Saints weren’t able to get the victory, but they improved by playing good opponents. The Saints are still ranked second in Orange County and tied for first in the league at 5-1.

Girls Basketball is still fighting for a potential playoff spot. They lost both league games but held their own. They lost to Villa Park and Canyon. With three games left, the Saints are 12-10. If they can win one of the final three games, the girls have an opportunity to earn an at-large bid to the playoffs.

Boys Soccer went 1-1 over the week. They lost to Cypress 2-5 but bounced back to defeat Esperanza. The Saints won 4-1, which included some world-class goals and the Saints goalkeeper saving two consecutive penalties. With three games left, the Saints have an opportunity to get in the top three in league and earn an automatic playoff spot.

Girls Soccer started the second half of league play with a huge win. The Saints defeated Esperanza 4-0 to get their first league win of the season. The win puts them in a great spot to earn an automatic playoff spot. Currently tied for third with three games left.

Girls Water Polo won both league games last week, remaining undefeated in league play! There were two close games where the Saints gritted out the wins. They defeated Troy 12-9 and then took El Dorado to overtime and won 12-10. That was their third win over El Dorado this year! With one league game left, the girls can win the league outright with a win or be co-champions with a loss.

Surf won their final meet of the season against Santa Margarita with a final score of 48-37! The Saints surfers had many surfers shred during their heats and advanced to the next round. Still, the standout performers were Kaylin Vollmer, who finished 5th overall in the longboard finals, and Kai Rodriguez, who finished 4th overall in the longboard finals. State Championships will be on March 22nd.
