Overview & Recognition
Purpose: To recognize scholar-athletes who have honored Crean Lutheran’s mission of Proclaiming Jesus Christ through Excellence in Education by achieving and maintaining academic excellence while also competing in one or more sports.
Senior Scholar-Athlete (Graduation Recognition): To qualify, a student-athlete must have earned at least Cum Laude status for graduation, participated in a minimum of two subsequent years (inclusive of the student’s senior year) on the roster of at least one Crean Lutheran athletic team, and have been accountable for all required team activities.
Season Scholar-Athlete (Season Recognition): At the conclusion of the academic year, student-athletes (9th – 11th) who earn a cumulative weighted academic GPA of 3.85 or better during both fall and spring semesters are recognized as Season Scholar-Athletes for that specific school year. Scholar-Athletes will NOT be honored at the individual sports banquets. Scholars will receive their certificates and a congratulatory letter at the conclusion of each school year.
Recognition:
End-of-Year Scholar-Athlete Banquet (Seniors Only)
- Qualifying student-athletes will be invited to the Annual Scholar-Athlete Breakfast.
Graduation Day Scholar-Athlete Recognized (Seniors only)
- Qualifying student-athletes will be awarded scholar-athlete medals that they may wear at graduation.
Season Scholar Athlete (Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors)
- Season Scholar-Athletes (non-seniors) will be notified at the conclusion of their academic year and will receive a congratulatory letter and certificate in the mail from the athletic department. The distinction of Scholar-Athlete will be listed on their official transcript for that academic year.
Implementation:
Senior Scholar-Athletes
- After the 1st semester grades are final, those Seniors who earned a Cumulative Weighted GPA of 3.85 or better are invited to the Scholar Athlete Breakfast. Senior Scholar Athletes receive a medallion and are recognized at graduation.
Season Scholar-Athletes
- After Spring grades are final each year. Athletics receives a list from the registrar’s office of all 9th-11th graders who finished the academic year with a 3.85 or higher. Each Scholar Athlete receives a congratulatory email and letter home that includes a Scholar Athlete Award Certificate.
